What is L-Naniron®?
L-Naniron® is a next-generation dietary supplement that harnesses the mechanism of endosomal iron absorption, combining four scientifically validated ingredients: SunActive® Fe (microencapsulated ferric iron Fe³⁺), Lactoferrin (bLf), Vitamin C and L-Methylfolate.
SunActive® Fe — The Endosomal Iron
SunActive® Fe consists of microencapsulated ferric pyrophosphate (Fe³⁺) with a mean particle size of ~0.3 μm. Thanks to its exceptionally small size, it is absorbed endosomally via endocytosis by the specialised M cells of Peyer’s patches in the small intestine, bypassing the conventional DMT1-dependent absorption pathway. In a clinical study in adult women, SunActive® Fe demonstrated a relative bioavailability (RBV) statistically equivalent to ferrous sulphate (FeSO₄), without the oxidative risk associated with free ferrous iron Fe²⁺ (Fenton reaction).
Lactoferrin (bLf) — The Hepcidin Regulator
Lactoferrin (bLf) is a natural glycoprotein that binds and transports iron. In the body, bLf regulates hepcidin levels by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6) and restoring ferroportin expression in macrophages, thereby enabling the release of stored iron for erythropoiesis. Additionally, bLf exerts antimicrobial and antiviral activity and acts as a prebiotic, promoting beneficial microorganisms (Bifidobacteria, Lactobacilli) without feeding pathogenic bacteria, unlike free iron.
Vitamin C — Absorption Enhancer
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) contributes to an increase in iron absorption and supports the normal function of the immune system.
L-Methylfolate — Bioactive Folate for Embryo Protection
L-Methylfolate (5-MTHF, 200 μg) is the bioactive, directly bioavailable form of folic acid, suitable even for individuals with an MTHFR polymorphism. It contributes to normal haematopoiesis, DNA synthesis and normal maternal tissue development during pregnancy, making L-Naniron® the ideal choice for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
